A new six-issue comic series will detail the events between Pacific Rim and its upcoming sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising
I loved it, Editor Will wasn’t so impressed. Pacific Rim directed by Guillermo del Toro told the story of mankind’s battle with the Kaiju, giant creatures from another dimension.
To battle these creatures, mankind had developed the Jaeger program, huge bipedal machines that could fight back. Each Jaeger required two pilots that had to use a neural bridge to connect their minds to share the mental stress of piloting a machine so huge.
The original film was released back in 2013 and next year in 2018 we’ll see the long-awaited sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising.
Our first look at the latest film revealed that the sequel will bring back old characters as well as introduce new ones such as Jake Pentecost as played by John Boyega. But what has been happening in the ten-year gap between stories?
A new six-issue comic book series from Legendary Comics entitled Pacific Rim: Aftermath is set just one year before the new film. The story will follow Jake as he searches for his father Stacker Pentecost (played by Idris Elba in the original film).
The comic will also introduce Griffin, a former Jaeger pilot who now works as an enforcer for a corrupt mob boss, as well as a mysterious criminal figure called the Mech Czar, who rules the underworld with a steel fist.
The first issue of Pacific Rim: Aftermath will be available in print and digitally on January 17th. Pacific Rim: Uprising will open in cinemas from March 23rd.
