Star Wars characters facing everyday problems. A full episode of the 2013 cancelled Star Wars comedy has leaked online.
I know what you’re thinking, “What the hell is Star Wars: Detours?!” Well, let’s get a bit of history.
According to the Star Wars Wookiepedia, George Lucas first announced in 2009 that a new Star Wars animation was in development. April 2010, and the official Star Wars site reveals that Lucasfilm Animation are in full production on this new animated comedy and has hired writers from shows such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Battlestar Galactica, SpongeBob SquarePants and The Daily Show.
In 2012, an official trailer was released along with several thirty seconds clips to give a flavour of the forthcoming show.
In 2012, Disney bought Lucasfilm and also announced a new Star Wars trilogy would go into production. Later in March 2013, Lucasfilm Ltd announced that the Detours show will be postponed due to the upcoming film, Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
The following year, Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, the creators of Robot Chicken and project leads on Detours, announced that Lucasfilm postponed the show as it would be wrong to introduce children to these classic characters in this comedic format in the run up to Episode VII and then have to take them seriously within the context of the new trilogy.
They believed that their comedy was timeless and that Detours would be released at some point after the new trilogy had concluded.
There must still be some interest at Lucasfilm because they filed a new trademark for Detours in 2018.
Star Wars: Detours is a show with three six minute segments per episode set between the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope therefore encompassing both the prequel and original trilogy. The episodes would centre around three main locations, Coruscant, the Death Star and Tatooine. Seth Green had said that 39 episodes were fully completed with scripts ready for a further 69.

The show was officially described as:
Star Wars Detours is an animated comedy that explores what daily life is like in a galaxy far, far away. There are no Empires striking back or attacking clones here. Instead, Star Wars Detours focuses on the universe’s regular folks and their everyday problems… which, to be fair, do frequently involve famous bounty hunters, crazed Ewoks, and even a Dark Lord of the Sith. Welcome to Star Wars: Detours: the other side of the stars, between the wars.
Star Wars: Detours hasn’t really been talked about for the last seven years. Many believed that Disney didn’t really like the show which is why it has been hidden away.
Then, out of the blue, an episode entitled “Dog Day Afternoon” was leaked onto the internet in mid November. No one seemed to notice for two weeks until it was picked up by a Reddit user in the Star Wars Leaks subreddit.
In the episode, two bounty hunters featured in The Empire Strikes Back, Zukuss and 4-LOM, attempt to rob Dexter’s Diner, a location from Attack of the Clones.
While it’s still available, hopefully you can watch the full episode below and make up your own mind if it was right to keep this hidden away.
