Already announced is the news that Paul Rudd is signed on to play Ant-Man in Edgar Wright’s adaptation of the Marvel character’s big screen debut. However it looks like Rudd is set to play Scott Lang, successor to the original Ant-Man as it’s been announced that Michael Douglas has been cast in the role of Hank Pym.

Marvel announced the news on with the following statement:

“With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. “We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.”

Ant-Man is due in cinemas at the end of July 2015.

Meanwhile there’s more news of a veteran actor joining a Marvel licence. Bill Paxton is set to join Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a multi episodic story arc in which he will play John Garrett who made his first appearance in Frank Miller and Bill Sienkiewicz’s classic Elektra: Assassin short run comic series.

Garrett is a rugged agent who is set to join the show in a surprising way. He will work alongside Agents Ward and May as a character that is insistent on remaining in the field regardless of how high up in S.H.I.E.L.D’s hierarchy he gets.
