Arrival | Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner And Forest Whitaker Meet The Aliens

Often we ignore the teasers in favour of waiting for the full trailer. But… this teaser for ‘Arrival’ made me feel a little excited.

Starring Amy Adams (Man of Steel), Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) and Forrest Whitaker (Rogue One) ‘Arrival’ certainly boasts some A-List talent.

The plot for ‘Arrival’ centres around the recruitment of an expert linguist (Adams) by the military in an attempt to communicate with aliens aboard crafts that have settled around the globe. Their mission is to determine if the inhabitants come in peace or have hostile intentions.

I’ll hold my hands up and freely admit that I’m a sucker for dry sci-fi movies. I dug Ex_Machina and found the charm in Midnight Special. Of course Steven Spielberg’s classic ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ sets the standard for alien contact films. So I am pretty much the target demographic for ‘Arrival’. That said I hope I’m not alone when I say that just watching this teaser gave me mild butterflies in the stomach. It’s the not knowing what the aliens will look like that I find fascinating.

The full trailer drops on the 16th of August at which point we’ll have a better idea if ‘Arrival’ has the gravitas the cast suggests it might, or whether it’s simply the latest ‘aliens land, quick let’s kill them’ movie.

Synopsis | When mysterious spacecraft touch down across the globe, an elite team – led by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) – is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.
