Walmart and GameStop are now taking pre-orders for the Atari VCS and there’s a new Kevlar Gold version too.
Backers of the Atari VCS Indiegogo campaign are still patiently waiting for their units. Several delays mean that early adopters are currently anticipating a December 2019 shipping date.
Despite this, U.S. consumers can now pre-order units from Walmart, GameStop and atarivcs.com. Prices start from $249.99 for a base unit with 4GB of RAM with prices rising to $389.99 for an 8GB version with accessories.
The official Atari VCS website is the only place you’ll be able to order the walnut veneer version of the console. A design that draws inspiration from the original Atari 2600.
GameStop and the Atari VCS website will sell the Black Onyx version of the VCS. Walmart is offering an exclusive Kevlar Gold variant (See lead image).
Even if you pre-order today, you’ll still have a lengthy wait for your VCS to arrive. Delivery is expected in March 2020.
Consoles will ship with ‘Atari Vault’ featuring over 100 classic games titles. But users will also be able to switch to “Sandbox mode” which will unlock a powerful, expandable multi-media PC. Sandbox Mode will also allows for other operating systems to boot from an external drive.
International pre-sale dates and retailers will be announced at a future date. For more information visit atarivcs.com.
