In these unprecedented times performers are finding inventive ways of distributing their art digitally. B. Dolan is taking to Minecraft for NetherRap, an online rap festival.
As Covid-19 continues to decimate the arts around the globe, musicians who rely on public performance for a significant portion of their livelihood have had to think laterally about alternative ways of reaching their fanbase.
We’ve witnessed artists like Travis Scott, with major record company backing, take to platforms like Fortnite for online concerts. Independent artists are increasingly utilising Twitch for live performances.
Merging these two concepts, indie rapper, B. Dolan, has been carefully curating a rap show of his own. Taking place later this month, the concert, titled #NetherRap, will be performed within Minecraft. Gamers will be able to attend and interact within the online environment.
For those unable to join in-game the event will be streamed via Twitch.
Hosting #NetherRap will be U.K. spoken word/rap artist, Scroobius Pip who – alongside headliner B.Dolan – will be welcoming Kimya Dawson, Rob Sonic, Sammus, Mega Ran, Eligh, E-Turn, Wheelchair Sports Camp, Digital Monster, and Austin (Nerfking) for performances.
There are numerous ways in which you can support the show and the artists including a variety of merchandise, available to pre-order, as well as in-game VIP packages which can be purchased for as little as $5. The latter provides the almost irresistible opportunity to ride the B Dolercoaster!
#NetherRap takes place on November 21st. For full details of how to view, participate and support visit netherrap.com.
