Dead Body Road #1 | Review

The men involved in his wife’s death must die. All of them. The bruising story of one man’s revenge and the dark road he travels.

Image ComicsThe plot summary doesn’t bury the lead, this is a revenge story and one that doesn’t look set to take it’s time getting down to the nitty-gritty. When his wife Anna, a cop caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, is gunned down by an armed gang on a job Gage swears that he’ll have revenge on each and every one of them.

With a sympathetic ally on the force heading up the investigation into the murder Gage is able to begin piecing together the movements of those responsible and set in motion his goal of bringing some kind of closure to the tragedy.

First to cross paths with Gage is Jimmy Stowe, but by the time Gage gets to him his fate has already been sealed, all that’s left is to gleam enough information and learn that there were seven in a the gang led by Lake, and one of them died in the heist. In the mean time a sub-plot shows the dark and violent world Gage is to face.

Visually the style of artwork compliments the sentiment of the story, Scalera’s gritty and grainy style adds to the texture. The car chase sequences in particular burst with speed and action whilst almost every page bursts with a vibrant orange hue.

Dead Body Road #1 makes for easy reading and if you’re not looking for anything too smart in the plot there’s a lot to enjoy. The premise is straight forward and one that’s been done plenty of times before, but if this first instalment is anything to go by we should be in for an entertaining and bloody ride.

Dead Body Road #1 is available to buy now from and your usual source of comics. Part 2 is due out on the 2nd of January.
