Disney Reveals The D23 Rise of Skywalker Footage!

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker sizzle reel unveils a minute of new footage!

This past weekend was the D23 Expo in California. Named after the year that Walt founded the Disney company, this is the official fan club.

The D23 Expo is a multi-day event that allows Disney fans to discover what the company has planned for its many branches of entertainment.

As I already reported, this was where the first official trailer was shown for Star Wars: The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars television show coming to the new Disney streaming platform, Disney+.

One of the big parts of the event was a showcase of their upcoming films. Those in attendance are treated to early footage of the big incoming blockbusters along with appearances from the cast and crew. For the majority of the time, this footage is only for those in attendance, much like the San Diego Comi Con.

Amongst the films shown this year was Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Director J.J. Abrams, and members of the cast including Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), and Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron) were there to present the footage and unveil a new poster.

As a side note, Kathleen Kennedy made another appearance with Ewan McGregor and it was confirmed that an Obi-Wan Kenobi television show will start production, again for the Disney+ platform. You can see the fans go wild at the announcement here.

Much like the previous Star Wars marketing campaigns, this footage is presented with no context which I love as it keeps us guessing. Highlights include a glimpse of Kylo Ren and Rey dualling it out on a platform jutting out into the sea, a red-eyed C3-PO and a LOT of Star Destroyers.

The sizzle reel ends on a great shot that I let you discover for yourselves.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens from the 19th of December.
