What would you do if you came face to face with your clone? What if that clone was hired to kill you? Will Smith stars twice in Ang Lee’s latest action adventure, ‘Gemini Man’.
‘Gemini Man’ is the latest action adventure movie from Ang Lee. As we’ve come to expect from the ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ and ‘Life of Pi’ director there’s action and special effects a-plenty. Oh! And a double helping of Will Smith to boot!
Smith plays retired assassin, Henry Brogan. Brogan’s desire for a quieter life is abruptly disturbed when he finds himself being hunted by a pursuant that seems to intuitively know his every move.
You get twice the Will Smith for your money in this film thanks to some clever digital wizardry from WETA Digital. As Henry Brogan, Smith plays a character similar in age to his own 50 years. But Smith also faces off against a digitally de-aged clone version of himself too.
It’s the same kind of technology that we’ve seen used to great effect in recent Marvel movies to digitally take years off Robert Downey Jnr and Samuel L. Jackson.
To reflect the difference in age Smith has to employ, not only different mannerisms, but also a different range of emotions depending on which version of his character he’s portraying. No mean feat when you’re effectively reacting to yourself.
‘Gemini Man’ comes to cinemas in North America from October 4th and finds its way onto UK screens from October 11th.
