First Look At HBO’s New Sci-fi Comedy, Avenue 5

A space tourism comedy set 40 years into the future where nothing can go wrong!?

You may not know the name of Armando Iannucci, but it’s very possible you’ve seen his work. Armando is a Scottish satirist, writer and director.

His work includes the many television shows and the feature film Alpha Papa featuring Steve Coogan’s character of the failed radio and TV presenter, Alan Partridge.

Armando also created the brilliant show, In The Thick Of It which takes a satirical look behind the scenes of British politics. This was followed by a feature film version entitled, In The Loop. This show was remade for the US market as Veep and ran for several seasons.

Armando also directed The Death of Stalin and has a new film about to open, The Personal History of David Copperfield.

Somewhere amongst all that, he has found the time to create a new show for HBO, entitled Avenue 5, it looks to tell the story of an intergalactic cruiser helmed by Ryan Clark as played by Hugh Laurie.
