Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash closes its doors for the last time today

Kevin Smith’s comic book store, Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, closes for the last time at 35 Broad Street, New Jersey today.

Commonly referred to simply as ‘The Stash‘, Kevin Smith’s comic book store situated in Red Bank, New Jersey has long been a destination for fans of the filmmaker’s work. For 21 years, enthusiasts from around the world have made the pilgrimage to ‘Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash’ at 35 Broad Street, where they might just catch a glimpse of a reality TV star.

The shop is named after Smith’s most enduring characters, Jay and Silent Bob and over the years The Stash has been filled with props and memorabilia from Smith’s films. Seven seasons of AMC’s reality TV show, ‘Comic Book Men’ were filmed there making stars of some of The Stash’s employees.

Indeed The Secret Stash’s manager, Walt Flannagan, a childhood friend of Smith’s, not only starred in ‘Comic Book Men’, but has featured in several of the filmmaker’s movies. Not least five individual roles in Smith’s debut cult classic, ‘Clerks’. He’s the guy with the eggs.

But today is the last day of trading at 35 Broad Street. From the beginning of February, Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash’ moves down the road to… 65 Broad Street.

Just a few doors away, a new, bigger Secret Stash is nearing completion. And in true Kevin Smith style, the guy managing the build is none other than Ernie O’Donnell aka the actor that played Rick Derris in ‘Clerks’.

O’Donnell has been documenting the construction of the new Stash in a YouTube series. You can check out the first instalment here.

Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash is dead. Long live the Stash! Whilst we wait for the doors to open at the new store, you can always enjoy a virtual experience by visiting jayandsilentbob.com. Snoochie boochies!
