Arnie and Jackie fight for the first time on-screen in The Mystery of Iron Mask, a sequel to the 2014 Russian film, Forbidden Kingdom
A trailer for Journey to China: The Mystery of Iron Mask was first released two years ago! I had been wondering what had happened to this film, but first, we need to backtrack a little.
Russia, 2014, the film Viy was released to huge success. The film follows an 18th-century cartographer, played by Jason Flemyng, who becomes lost in a small Ukranian village and stumbles upon a dangerous evil.
Viy was eventually released around the world as The Forbidden Empire and Forbidden Kingdom here in the UK.
The trailer for the sequel intrigued me and I tracked down a copy of the first film in a local second-hand DVD shop for just 50p! You can read my review of this visually stunning but confusing film.
The first Westernised trailer for its sequel, originally called Viy 2 but seemingly renamed to Journey to China: The Mystery of Iron Mask, appeared two years ago and teased appearances by Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
This new trailer features more of the two famous cinematic actors and the way it’s been put together suggests that Jackie and Arnold only feature in one major sequence and this has spoiled most of that.
Journey to China: The Mystery of Iron Mask will release simultaneously in cinemas and on digital services in the UK on April 10th.
