U.S. network The CW have revealed a first look at their forthcoming ‘Batwoman’ television series starring Ruby Rose.
The CW is already home to ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, ‘Supergirl’ and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’. The latest DC Comics character to join the lineup is ‘Batwoman’.
Batman has given up on Gotham and the city is suffocating in the midst of a crime wave. Bruce Wayne is missing and his cousin, Kate Kane, (Ruby Rose – Orange is the new Black) has been sent away from Gotham for her own safety.
Things change when Kate learns of the disappearance of a former lover and returns to the city to pick up where Bruce Wayne and Batman left off.
Kate Kane finds her way into Bruce Wayne’s lab where she sets about utilising some of Batman’s resources. “I need you to fix his suit” she remarks to Wayne’s assistant. “The suit is literal perfection” he retorts. “It will be… when it fits a woman” she deadpans. “I’m not about to let a man take credit for a woman’s work” quips Kane when an onlooker mistakes her for the return of the Dark Knight. The show promises action a-plenty and looks visually stunning.
The show provides an important milestone too. Kate Kane isn’t the only LGBT character to come from DC Comics, but is the first openly gay lead in a show of this kind.
There is no release date for ‘Batwoman’ at this time.
