Make Chiptune Music Like A Boss With ‘Super Audio Cart’

Impact Soundworks and OCReMix have teamed up to launch ‘Super Audio Cart’, a comprehensive sample library to get you knocking out 8-Bit anthems in no time.

Did you listen to ‘While My Guitar Gently Bleeps‘ on BBC Radio 4 this week and feel inspired to make your own Chiptune tracks? Maryland-based music software developers Impact Soundworks have got your back bro!

Impact Soundworks and OverClocked ReMix, an organisation formed in 1999 dedicated to the promotion of video game music as an artform, have teamed up to present ‘Super Audio Cart‘ an extensive and authentic library of over 5000 samples taken from seven classic games consoles.

zircon-profileImpact Soundworks co-founder Andrew “zircon” Aversa comments – “There are plenty of plugins that emulate certain classic sound chips, but an emulation is never as good as the real thing,” – “That’s why we recorded from the systems themselves to create these sounds. When you play a square wave in Super Audio Cart, you’re hearing the sound straight from an actual NES. It doesn’t get any better at that!”

The idea that’s been eight years in the making is aimed at both professionals and amateurs alike. Super Audio Cart runs in Kontakt Player allowing PC and MAC users to recreate classic game music, or compose their own. In addition to a large number of authentic sounds from these classic gaming systems, the library also includes many designer presets that go far beyond the system limitations.
