Marked with a Galarian Farfetch’d celebration in Pokémon GO, the Pokémon Company announced Mega Evolutions and New Pokémon Snap.
Pokémon GO players got a surprise visit from Farfetch’d in Galarian form yesterday. The 24 hour event is a celebration of the leek bearing fighting duck that coincides with some big announcements from the Pokémon Company.
Keeping it ‘GO’. Players of the augmented reality phenomenon will soon be able to experience Mega Evolutions within the game. Already familiar with evolving their pocket monsters to make them stronger, a Mega Evolution will increase strength even further for a limited time. Mega Evolutions usually take place during battle and require a special stone.
How this dynamic will fit into the existing Pokémon GO infrastructure is still unknown. In Pokémon lore, Mega Evolutions originated from the Kalos Region, which hasn’t featured in the game as of yet.
The news that has everyone most excited is the announcement of ‘New Pokémon Snap’. Coming to Nintendo Switch, the game is an update of the 1999 Nintendo 64 game.
Unlike other Pokémon games where players are encourage to catch ’em all, the idea behind ‘Snap’ is to explore beautiful undiscovered islands where Pokémon can be found in their natural habitats – and take photos of them. It’s a peaceful and relaxing take on the collecting concept.
One more game was announced and will see, for the first time ever, a simultaneous release on console and mobile device. ‘Pokémon Café Mix’ is a twist on the café concept where players must solve puzzles and organise icons in order to fulfil orders and keep their Pokémon customers happy. The free to start game (presumably offering micro-transactions) will be released on console and mobile devices on June 24th.
