The Nintendo Classic Mini: SNES Will Be Released In September

Nintendo confirm the Classic Mini: SNES will be released on September 29th, let’s hope lessons have been learned regarding supply and demand.

When Nintendo released the NES Mini ahead of Christmas 2016, demand for the miniature, retro console caught almost everyone with their pants down.

Many fans were left disappointed as supply fell embarrassingly behind demand resulting in unscrupulous traders demanding more than double the recommended retail price for the console via online auction sites and marketplaces.

Rubbing salt in the wound Nintendo then announced that production of the highly sought after product was to cease despite demand remaining high.

One can only hope that Nintendo have got their shit together this time around as the gaming giants announce their follow up – The Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Super Famicom in Japan), or Classic: SNES for short.

Classic SNES

Whilst the announcement today that the Classic SNES will be released on September 29th didn’t surprise many (We’ve been expecting the console for a while now), there are some nice touches that accompany the news – not least the games it comes bundled with.

There are 21 games pre-installed including one title that was never previously released.

Star Fox (Originally titled Starwing in the U.K. because, reasons) blew our minds with it’s groundbreaking use of vectored graphics and stunning sound. The title was a Nintendo exclusive that gave fans of the SNES something to really brag about during the ’90s console wars with SEGA.

It seems a sequel was developed for the intergalactic adventure game, but wasn’t ever released (also because, reasons)… until now.

As with the Classic NES, the Mini SNES comes with an HDMI cable allowing for upscaling to modern HD televisions, and best of all, unlike the NES edition, the unit appears to come packed with two controllers straight out the box.

Retailer information is to follow but it looks like someone at Amazon got a little trigger happy and placed the Classic Mini: SNES up for pre-order. The listing has since been updated to ‘unavailable’, but you can register your interest in pre-ordering now.

The U.S. Nintendo site list the price at $79.99. U.K. buyers likely won’t benefit from the pound being slightly stronger than the dollar and still have to stump up £79.99.
