A new Earthworm Jim game from members of the games original development team will launch exclusively on a new console from… Intellivision?!
Earthworm Jim debuted twenty five years ago on the SEGA Mega Drive (Genesis) and became something of an instant classic. The game has spawned multiple sequels, comics and cartoons and is now making an unusual comeback.
A brand new Earthworm Jim game is being developed by many of the team behind the original. Good news. But… the new game will only be available on a new console from Intellivision called Amico.
Fans of retro gaming might recognise the Intellivision name, and with good reason. Way back in 1979, Intellivision released the first 16-bit console that carried the first professional sports licensed games. If anything, the company was way ahead of the curve in their thinking.
The 1979 16-Bit Intellivision console
Amico was first announced in 2018 and is scheduled to launch on October 10th 2020. With their new console, Intellivision intend to shake up the home console market by creating an affordable and sustainable family gaming experience.
The new console will retail from between $149 and $179 with games costing as little as $2.99 up to $7.99 available from an online store. Titles will be suitable for all ages and will not support in-game purchases or DLC. You’ll get the full game on day one. No messing.
There will be remakes of classic games as well as 20 exclusive new titles available on launch day. And this is where the new Earthworm Jim game comes into play.
Earthworm Jim creator, Doug TenNapel, is on-board despite some fans’ reservations over anti-trans comments made by the games developer. EJ’s music composer Tommy Tallarico is also involved. Tallarico happens also to be the CEO and president of Intellivision Entertainment.
More information about the game, and presumably the console will be revealed on May 4th in a livestream being broadcast simultaneously on YouTube, Facebook and Twitch.
