A sequel to Ernest Cline’s hit novel, Ready Player One, is available to pre-order now.
Published in 2011, Ernest Cline’s bestselling novel, ‘Ready Player One‘, would go on to receive a big screen adaptation by none other than Steven Spielberg. The film divides opinion between fans of the book. For me it pales in comparison due to large deviations from the source material.
Cline’s 2015 follow-up novel bore many similarities to Ready Player One in format. Equally heaped with nostalgia and pop-culture references, ‘Armada’ turned out to be poorly conceived and terribly contrived.
The author now returns to the world of his first novel with a sequel titled – drumroll – ‘Ready Player Two’! Details of the plot have, so far, been undisclosed, but one would expect the story to pick up on the fortunes of the story’s protagonist, Wade Watts.
Set in a dystopian future, the plot followed the exploits of Wade Watts, an ordinary teen with a penchant for all things retro. With little in the way of future prospects available in the real world, Watts – like millions of others – finds escapism in the virtual reality landscape of a game called the Oasis. His online adventures lead to an ominous real-world threat and a battle to gain control of the Oasis.
Whilst we may not know much about ‘Ready Player Two’, Ernest Cline has alluded to the fact that the book is intended as a sequel to his novel rather than Spielberg’s 2018 movie.
‘Ready Player Two’ is scheduled for release on November 24th and is available to pre-order now.
