Based on the DC Comics story by Jeff Lemire, Sweet Tooth is a post-apocalyptic fairy tale heading to Netflix.
Sweet Tooth is the latest television series to be adapted from a DC Comics (Vertigo Imprint) title. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world that presents startling similarities, at times, to our current reality amidst a global pandemic. As humankind is decimated by an unknown virus a new kind of animal/human hybrid is discovered. Children born with animal features. Gus is one such hybrid identifiable by his antlers.
Raised by his religious father, Gus ponders what lies beyond his forest homeland. It’s only when his father dies that he ventures into the hostile world beyond. One that finds fearful humans hell-bent on hunting all hybrids. Gus must survive the hunt to connect with others of his kind.
Sweet Tooth was first published under the Vertigo imprint of DC Comics in September 2009. The title was written and illustrated by comic book creator, Jeff Lemire. The title is now adapted as a Netflix series which is being executive-produced by Robert Downey Jr. and wife, Susan Downey.
All episodes will be available to view on Netflix from June 4th.
