The cinematic release date for Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has been announced. Production will need to be as fast as Sonic himself.
After a shaky start, fan uproar and a quick fix on some dodgy CGI, Sonic the Hedgehog made a successful cinematic debut in February 2020. It was one of the last family films to enjoy a full release before Covid-19 put the film industry on hold.
Paramount Pictures, the studio behind a Sonic sequel will be hoping that life returns to some semblance of normality in the next year as they have today announced the release date for Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
The announcement came via the official @SonicMovie twitter account which reveals that we can expect Sonic back in theatres from April 8th 2022. That’s only fourteen months away. Taking into consideration that much of the film will be computer generated, that’s a quick turnaround in terms of production for a film. As Sonic would say, “Gotta go fast!“.
Groundbreaking. Thought provoking. Extremely obvious. Presenting the official title of the #SonicMovie sequel: Sonic the Hedgehog 2! Catch #SonicMovie2 in theatres in 2022. pic.twitter.com/SlVk7fakp3

A short announcement video teases the introduction of Sonic’s buddy, Tails. We saw the two tailed fox make a brief appearance at the end of the first Sonic movie, and we expect to see a lot more in the sequel.
Sonic will, no doubt, need all the help he can get as we also expect to see the return of Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik character, who will, no doubt, be out for revenge after Sonic banished the evil mastermind to a remote mushroom world with no obvious means of escape.
