Space Jam: A New Legacy | First trailer is filled with Easter eggs

From Game of Thrones to the King Kong, the first trailer for ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ is filled with pop-culture eye-candy for those that love an Easter egg hunt. How appropriate at this time of year.

It’s been 25 years since Michael Jordan laced up his air… Jordan’s and joined the Looney Tunes on the cinema screen for ‘Space Jam’. The film is widely considered a classic live-action/animation crossover.

In 2021, basketball legend, LeBron James picks up the mantle and enters the cartoon domain as Space Jam returns with ‘A New Legacy’. The plot is basic and preposterous as one would expect.

LeBron’s son, Dom, dreams of being a video game developer. His father aspires for his son to follow in his own sporting footsteps. A freak encounter finds them both trapped within a virtual space by a rogue A.I. named Al. G. Rhythm (Don Cheadle – Iron Man). Their only chance of escape pivots on LeBron James’ ability to lead Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Lola Bunny and the other zany toons to victory over Al. G’s champions on the basketball court.

Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery) also features with Zendaya (Spider-Man: Homecoming) providing the voice of Lola Bunny.

As the more eagle-eyed of you will have spotted, there are plenty of Easter eggs to spot in this first trailer. Indeed, it’s almost reminiscent of ‘Ready Player One‘, especially as The Iron Giant and King Kong both feature.

‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ is scheduled for release in the U.S. on July 16th with a the U.K. waiting a little longer until July 23rd. Other regions should check IMdB.
