Star Wars Celebration reveals the first look at the next major Star Wars video game
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was first announced by name at the 2018 Electronic Entertainment Expo (or E3 for short) by Electronic Arts. (The then
Electronic Arts won the licence to produce Star Wars games shortly after Disney bought Lucasfilm back in 2013. Since then there has only been Star Wars: Battlefront and the controversial sequel, Battlefront II.
Therefore, this third title has a lot to live up to. Before Star Wars Celebration we knew only that the game was being worked on by Stig Asmussen who previously worked for Sony Santa Monica on the God of War series.
He had joined the team of Respawn Entertainment who had previously developed Titanfall 1 & 2 and the recently released free to play multiplayer title, Apex Legends.
In an short interview at Star Wars Celebration on the Friday (12th), Respawn’s Vince Zampella confirmed that the game is a single-player story adventure with no multiplayer and, crucially, no microtransactions. This drew huge cheers from the gathered crowds.
He also revealed that the game is set shortly after Star Wars: Episode III‘s Order 66 event. This is when the Emperor gives the order for all the Jedi of the galaxy to be wiped out.
The story follows a young padawan, Cal Kestis, who is laying low after the events of Order 66. He is working as part of a salvage team and has a droid companion called BD-1.
Cal Kestis was played in motion capture and voiced by Cameron Monaghan who is most famous for playing the Joker in television’s Gotham.
Unfortunately, this first teaser only hints at what is to come and sadly features no actual gameplay footage but that doesn’t mean I’m any less excited for it.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be released for PC, Sony Playstation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One on November 15th.
