The 2020 Scalextric range includes a Back to the Future Delorean

It’s time to dig that old Scalextric out of the loft. Along with new cars inspired by DC Comics characters, Scalextric have revealed a new Delorean time machine slot car.

As a kid I always wanted a Scalextric set. I had to make do with the smaller scale, less impressive Matchbox version. Still, it was hours of fun. Many years later, when I moved into my own flat my housemate and I made up for lost time and filled the large living room with Scalextric track.

Now I’m a fully fledged adult with my own kids and disposable income. It looks like it might be time to rev up those little electric motors once more as Scalextric have announced their 2020 range with a few nerdy inclusions.

Leading the way is a brand new tooling of the Back to the Future Delorean time machine. This highly detailed model features working front and rear lights and comes with a detachable lightning conductor rod. You can re-enact that famous scene from the first film when Doc Brown sends Marty “Back to the Future”. The only thing missing is a trail of flame.

Scalextric will release their new Delorean sometime in Spring in celebration of the 35th anniversary of Back to the Future at a cost of £45.99.

Amongst an extensive 2020 line-up filled out with myriad sports cars, both classic and current, are some cult pop-culture inclusions. A James Bond: No Time To Die set features a classic Aston Martin DB5 and a Jaguar XF. There’s also a Batman and Joker set.
