Amazon’s graphic, violent, yet humorous adaptation of The Boys is returning to Prime Video in 2020 for a second season.
With a far grittier take on the superhero trope, The Boys, was by far one of my standout series of 2019. Depicting a world where superheroes are worshipped as gods by a public oblivious to how flawed they actually are. A corporate machine turns the business of ‘saving the world’ into a billion dollar industry corrupted by political agenda and financial gain.
Heroes indiscretions are smothered by legal red tape and silencing payments. But one group are rebelling. Led by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), a small team are fighting back, intent on exposing what the ‘supes’ really are to a blissfully unaware public consciousness.
Filled with graphic scenes of violence and strong language The Boys pulls no punches. But clever twists and compelling storytelling mixed with frequent dark humour make for a fun and interesting alternative superhero story.
Exclusive to Amazon Prime Video, The Boys returns in 2020 for a second season which promises much more of the same.
