UKFilmNerd’s Shorts | Human Revolution: Deus Ex

Here at The Unheard Nerd we welcome all kinds of media and will gladly share our findings from the net with you the reader. As your probably already aware, I love film and in a semi regular feature I will share with you some of the excellent short films hiding away on the internet.

Human Revolution: Deus Ex is a short film based on the popular role playing game of the same name. The year is 2027 and security manager Adam Jensen, from the biotechnology firm Sarif Industries, is mortally wounded when the company comes under a terrorist attack.

Adam undergoes a life saving operation that replaces several of his body parts with advanced prostheses. The game follows Adam’s quest to find the terrorists and the growing revolution of those opposed to the augmenting of humans with this new technology.

This short has been in production for two years and it was first noticed when a behind the scenes clip first appeared back then. At first everyone thought it was official until Square Enix, the games publishers, stepped in and denied it was anything to do with them.

The level of quality in Human Revolution is quite simply amazing. I’ve never played the game but dammit! I’m off to the shops now to see if I can pick up a copy! (I’m not kidding either!)

Based on the video game Deus Ex Human Revolution, the film dives into the world of Adam Jensen, a Sarif industries’ security consultant that gets augmented after an incident that almost took his life away. Although the film doesn’t follow the narrative of the game exactly, it remains true to the theme while focusing on the relationship between Adam Jensen, and his ex girlfriend Megan Reed, a scientist hand picked by Serif Industries to head Cybernetic Augmentations. Megan is taken by the Illuminati and is asked to assist them in turning on a mysterious device but she refuses to cooperate. Jensen has been looking for Megan since she was kidnapped and has finally pinpointed her location. Adam faces a complication that he did not account for; Yelena Federova, an Augmented assassin is at the facility where Megan is being held. The film also taps, even if briefly, into Adam’s mind and the struggle he must face on daily basis.
