Wonder Woman 1984 – New trailer introduces Cheetah

The Batman may have stolen the show at DC’s online FanDome event, but a new trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 reminded us that we have a lot to look forward to.

We should have seen Wonder Woman 1984 by now. It’s original release date was set for the end of 2019. But the studio, favouring a summer slot, pushed the date back to June 2020. Who could have seen Covid-19 coming? The film industry has ground to a halt. The June date was pushed back to August 14th 2020 and subsequently revised to October 2nd. Nearly a year after that original November date.

It’s safe to say that in that some of the shine on Gal Gadot’s armour has faded in that year. It’s hard to feel quite as excited for a film we’ve now heard and seen so much of.

To remind us of what we have to look forward to, DC opened their FanDome online event with a new ‘Official Main Trailer’ for what has lovingly become abbreviated to WW84. The new trailer introduces a legacy character, Cheetah.

Cheetah is a villain who first appeared in comics as far back as 1943, the original release date for Wonder Woman 1984 (jokes). The character is played by Kristen Wiig (Ghostbusters) and is a nerdy archaeologist determined not to be overlooked any more.

Cheetah is one of two antagonists, the other being Max Lord, a character rumoured to be modelled on Donald Trump. The media mogul is played by Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian).

It looks Diana Prince will have her work cut out battling two adversaries and dealing with that fact that Steve Trevor is still alive and acclimatising to life in the ’80s.

Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled, maybe, possibly… for an October 2nd release.
